The Ontario Pharmacists Association (OPA) and the University of Waterloo (UW) School of Pharmacy are proud to collaborate in offering this new interactive workshop program at the forefront of pharmacy education. Dr. Nardine Nakhla, Clinical Lecturer at the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy, is the lead author and main facilitator of this exciting workshop.
Description:
This dynamic, in-person, 5-hour workshop is designed to give pharmacy teams (pharmacists and pharmacy technicians) a competitive edge in delivering high-quality minor ailment prescribing (MAP) services. Through active learning modalities, participants will engage with real-world cases and apply key concepts using practical tools including the pharmacists’ patient care process (PPCP) and an electronic minor ailment prescribing workflow software (MAPflow), all with the goal of efficiently and effectively enhancing patient care and improving service outcomes. This workshop provides participants with a valuable opportunity to build confidence, confidence, and expertise in providing clinical services.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe the current requirements from the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) and the Ontario Ministry of Health (MOH) regarding provision of minor ailment prescribing (MAP) services.
- Apply a standardized approach to assessing patients and managing concerns in the provision of MAP services.
- Develop a plan to leverage tools, technology, and effective teamwork to increase provider confidence and competence, thereby improving the safety, quality, and efficiency of MAP.

The course consists of an online learning module to be completed ahead of the in-person workshop. Lunch will be provided at the in-person workshop.

Intended Audience:
This workshop is intended for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants and any other member of the pharmacy team. We encourage participants to sign up with members of their pharmacy team so that they can work together and take learnings back to their pharmacy practice.
This workshop does not focus on the legal requirements for pharmacists prescribing for minor ailments in each jurisdiction. Please refer to the regulatory authority in your jurisdiction for more information.

Cancellation Policy:

Registration to the program is not transferrable without express consent of OPA. If a request for cancellation is deemed eligible under this policy, a $50 (+HST) administration and processing fee will apply and OPA will deduct this amount from the registration fee to be refunded to the participant.
