This blended program, consisting of an in-person session and an online module, is designed to help injection-trained pharmacists and pharmacy technicians refresh their injection administration skills and techniques. The half-day in-person session provides instruction and feedback with a trained injection administration assessor to help you build confidence and improve your technique.

In-person Assessment (3-4 hours)

• Demonstration of injection techniques
• Practicing techniques
• Practical exam (demonstration of intramuscular and subcutaneous injections on a partner)

Online Module (0.75 hour)

• Identify the correct supplies to have on hand for administering injections
• Ensure patient safety including infection prevention
• Select the proper needle gauge/length, injection site, maximum volume, and need angle for injections by the intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular routes
• Reduce injection-related pain and anxiety using both non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic approaches
• Reduce the risk of needlestick injury and properly access care if it should occur
• Demonstrate the appropriate technique for immunization
