Description
Description:
The program has obtained The Canadian Council on Continuing Education in Pharmacy (CCCEP) competency-mapped accreditation, which addresses the 15 competencies for pharmacist injection education, as approved by the OCP Board:
- 14 immunization competencies for health professionals approved by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
- 1 competency (Essential Competencies for the Injection of Other Substances) approved by CCCEP
In-Person Assessment:
Participants are required to attend an in-person session to complete their injection assessment. During the session, you will be supervised and assessed by a trained injection assessor. The assessor will observe you demonstrating both intramuscular and subcutaneous injections on a partner and your partner will, in turn, demonstrate on your arm. Sessions may range from 2 to 4 hours in length, depending on the number of participants.
Each session requires a minimum of 4 participants to run. If a session does not reach minimum capacity, OPA reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the session.

Intended Audience:
The Injections and Immunizations Certificate Program is a comprehensive two-part series designed to support pharmacists in the administration of injections for the purposes of education, demonstration, and immunization per current regulations and existing standards of practice.
CPR and First Aid training are not required before taking this course. However, valid certification in CPR and First Aid is required for pharmacists to administer injections in Ontario. OPA members receive a special rate with the Canadian Red Cross. Please visit the members benefit section of OPA’s website for more information.
Participants who achieve a letter of completion may state that they hold a continuing education certificate in the Injection Training Certificate Program for Pharmacists. This does not grant authority to administer injections as such authority is granted by legislation through each healthcare professional’s own regulatory college.
For more information about injection training requirements, please see OCP’s website here.
