Description
Description:
As the opioid epidemic continues, pharmacy professionals are regularly exposed to its impacts. The role of the pharmacy team in safe opioid dispensing and promoting patient safety through appropriate access to controlled substances has never been more important.
Pharmacy technicians are often the first contact for patients, and as such, are presented with the unique opportunity to play a critical role in opioid harm reduction. Pharmacy technicians can provide patient education and awareness and normalize the distribution of naloxone kits to all opioid prescriptions in community pharmacies. Through communication and understanding, pharmacy technicians can also improve patient care and reduce stigmas associated with opioid use.
