Pharmacist Memberships

As an OPA member, you become part of a community of pharmacy professionals who are working to drive the evolution of pharmacy practice and quality patient care. There are seven pharmacist membership categories - designed to help you have a voice in your profession: full member, spousal member, hospital pharmacist member, supporting member - 65+, supporting member - resigned/retired, supporting member - out-of-province, supporting member - disabled

To determine your membership type, please base your selection on your practice standing as of January 1 of the membership year (e.g., January 1, 2017 for the 2017 membership year).

Full member

If you are a licensed pharmacist, registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists, and your primary address is in Ontario.

Spousal member

If you meet the criteria for full membership PLUS reside full-time at the same residence as another pharmacist who is registered with OPA as a full member.

Note: Your partner must register as a full member before your spousal application can be processed/approved. We will only send one copy of any mailed materials when a full member and spousal member register.

Hospital pharmacist member

If you meet the criteria for full membership PLUS your primary place of practice is an , Ontario hospital. 

Note: This is a non-voting membership. Hospital pharmacists who want the opportunity to vote at OPA's AGM should register as full members. Membership eligibility will be checked against your place of employment as listed on the OCP's public registry. If your primary place of practice is a community pharmacy within a hospital, please register as a full member.

Supporting member - 65+

If you meet the criteria for full membership PLUS you are 65 years of age or older as of January 1 of the membership year.

Supporting member - retired/resigned

If you have voluntarily stopped practicing and are no longer registered as a pharmacist in any jurisdiction in Canada OR you are registered as a member emeritus with OCP AND your primary address is in Ontario.

Note: Limited access to insurance coverages exist in this membership category.

Supporting member - out of province

If you are a pharmacist licensed in any jurisdiction in Canada and your primary address is outside of Ontario.

Supporting member - disabled

If you meet the criteria for full membership AND you meet the criteria for disabled as set out by the OPA insurance plan.

Note: All applications in this category will be reviewed and approved by the OPA insurance department.

Privileges: Full and spousal memberships carry voting privileges and the opportunity to hold positions on the Board. All memberships have the opportunity to hold positions on committees.

Ontario Pharmacists Association memberships may be cancelled at any time, however membership fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Requests made in writing within 10 calendar days of purchase may be considered, however, in all cases, an administration fee of 10 per cent of the membership fee (plus HST) will be charged.
