You’ll also receive responsive, 24/7 claims service and emergency assistance from a trusted insurance company.

Why should I choose home and auto insurance from the Ontario Pharmacists Association?

The Ontario Pharmacists Association’s group auto and home insurance provides affordable coverage, exceptional service, and many exclusive features. These include:

  • automatic substitution
  • waiver of premium due to death or diability
  • OneStep™, a 24/7 claims service that never sleeps and handles most claims in as little as one call
  • flexible payment options – choose the day, month and frequency for your payment deductions
  • Claims Guarantee – claims counselling and no increase of premiums if you decide to pay your claim out of pocket (some conditions apply, call COSECO to get further details)
  • Service Review Panel – if you have an unresolved claim following our regular service process our Service Review Panel will review your concerns from a client perspective.

When you choose the OPA program, you are getting a program developed for pharmacists, by pharmacists. Our program is managed and underwritten by reputable insurers, and overseen by the Ontario Pharmacists Association. If you have questions about your coverage or need help making a claim, we’re here to help.

Disclaimer
This represents a simplified summary of the auto and home plan. The actual terms and conditions of the insurance contract and the coverage are determined by the Master Policy, which is kept at the OPA office.

What are some of the key features of OPA’s auto insurance?

The auto insurance offered through the OPA plan is among the most flexible insurance plans available – you choose the coverage amount and deductible that is right for you.

By being a part of the OPA auto insurance program, you get exceptional value-added benefits you may not get anywhere else, including automatic coverage when you replace your vehicle (automatic substitution).* If you replace your vehicle before your auto insurance expires, you are still covered. If your coverage does not change, you will automatically receive the same protection at no extra cost until it is time to renew your policy. (Be sure to call COSECO Insurance to inform them that you have replaced your vehicle.) Have peace of mind knowing that your claims-free rating will be protected after your first “at-fault” collision, by adding the Accident Protector to your policy. Call COSECO at 1-888-394-4964 to see if you qualify for this optional coverage.

*Discounts, coverage, and eligibility vary by province.

Members can also choose from extended/additional coverage (called endorsements) for added protection:

Endorsement

  • Coverage for Replacement Transportation #20 – Coverage that pays the cost of a rental car, taxi or public transportation when your insured vehicle is being repaired due to an insured loss.
  • Liability for Damage to Non-Owned Vehicle #27 – Coverage that protects you for the financial obligation you are legally responsible for due to damage caused to a non-owned automobile which is in your care, custody or control (eg. a rented vehicle while on vacation)
  • Limited Waiver of Depreciation #43 – Designed to help protect against the loss of value or depreciation of a new car in the event that the car is involved in a “total loss” accident; total loss means the car is beyond repair and must be replaced. The coverage is only available for the first 24 months from the vehicle date of manufacture (some conditions apply). In order to purchase this coverage the vehicle must have Comprehensive & Collision coverage.
  • Accident Protector Endorsement COS51 – Even good drivers have bad days.  Protect your claims-free rating after your first at-fault collision by adding the Accident Protector.  This endorsement allows an at fault claim to be forgiven and forgotten. Call COSECO to see if you qualify for this endorsement.

Claims Guarantee

Claims Counselling – you can contact COSECO to ask questions on any claims issue – such as a car accident or damage to your home.  We will answer your questions, confirm you coverages, record the details, and provide you with relevant information to help you decide whether or not to make a claim.

Service Review Panel – If your claims have not been resolved to your satisfaction, you may have the option to submit your case to our Service Review Panel.  This panel consists of volunteer clients – just like you – and is unique to the Canadian insurance industry.  If the Panel recommends a change in the settlement of claim, we will follow their advice.

What are some of the key features of OPA’s home insurance?

The OPA home insurance plan offers unique blanket limit coverage for your home. In the event of a partial or total loss to your home, you can have peace of mind that you’re covered. This coverage enables you to replace your building, contents, outbuildings and pay for any additional living expenses under one blanket limit of $1 million. The blanket limit can be increased up to $3 million. Some conditions apply. Exceptional value-added property insurance for condominium owners and tenants is also available.

By being a part of the OPA property insurance program you will receive value-added benefits you may not get anywhere else.

Identity Theft Coverage

All home insurance plans – Home, condo and tenants – include identity theft coverage at no extra cost.

Identity theft is the illegal use of personal information. It involves stealing the identity of another person usually for the purpose of financial gain or criminal activity. With this coverage, if you’re a victim of identity theft:

  • COSECO will reimburse up to $10,000 for expense associated with someone stealing and using your personal information for fraudulent transactions.
  • You pay no deductible and it will not impact your claims free discount.
  • Insured costs include legal fees, the cost of notarizing affidavits or sending certified mail and earnings lost due to time away from work.

Automatic Coverage for New Purchases*

Most insurable items you purchase will be covered automatically at no extra charge until your next renewal date. This includes a seasonal residence, jewellery, artwork and more. Just contact COSECO insurance to advise them of your purchase within 90 days of acquiring it.

*Some exclusion may apply.

Additional Options available under the home insurance plan include:

  • a choice in coverage and deductible to meet your needs
  • coverage for seasonal residence, revenue properties and watercraft
  • protection against water damage losses when you add extended water coverage to our standard or comprehensive home policy, seasonal residence and/or revenue property policy.
