Did you know that you may be eligible for a free one-on-one medication review with your pharmacist as part of the MedsCheck program?
This program, sponsored by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, is designed to help make sure you understand all the medications you take, including the correct dosage, when and how to take them, any possible side effects or interactions you should be aware of, and how to best handle them.
On average, a MedsCheck consultation takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes, though the duration may vary depending on the complexity of your medication profile. As the program is fully funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, it is available to any eligible Ontarian at no charge once per year. If the need arises, you may also be eligible for one or more follow-up appointments throughout the year.
You are eligible for the MedsCheck program if you have a valid Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card and if any one of these is true:
- You take three or more prescription medications for a chronic condition.
- You have been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.
- You live in a licensed long-term care home.
If you are eligible for the MedsCheck program but are not able to leave your home to visit your community pharmacy, talk to your pharmacist about the MedsCheck at Home program.
If you want to know more about the program, or if you want to gain more knowledge and control over your medications and chronic condition, please visit your local pharmacy and speak to your pharmacist today.
