Executive Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer
Allan Malek is the Executive Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer for the Ontario Pharmacists Association. Allan manages OPA’s health policy, advocacy, economic, and pharmacy practice initiatives that aim to facilitate and improve pharmacists’ delivery of the best possible care for their patients while helping to entrench OPA as the authoritative voice of pharmacy in Ontario. He also oversees the Association’s robust continuing professional development program and Drug Information and Resource Centre (DIRC).
Allan obtained his Bachelors degree in Biology from the University of Ottawa and his pharmacy degree in 1988 from Boston’s Northeastern University. He is a member of the Ontario College of Pharmacists, the Canadian Pharmacists Association, and the American Pharmaceutical Association.
Prior to joining OPA in June 2008, Allan served as the Vice President of Pharmacy for the Canadian Association of Chain Stores (CACDS). He has also been an owner and manager of various pharmacies in Ottawa and Toronto, and also served as Pharmacy Programs Manager for pharmaceutical manufacturer Apotex.
Allan remains professionally active providing direct patient care through part-time work in a community pharmacy, and still manages to find time to spend with his wife and three daughters.
