The Fluzone® High Dose and Direct Order Professional Development program is developed to educate pharmacists on the scope of practice related to immunizations, flu vaccines and specifically the Fluzone® High Dose product, pharmacy direct orders and managing pharmacy workflow.


Learning objectives 

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Obtain an overview of pharmacists’ scope of practice in the Province of Ontario with respect to the administration of immunizations
  • Receive a summary of the place of influenza vaccination in public health and the role of Health Canada’s Canadian Immunization Guide with respect to influenza vaccine products
  • Be introduced to Fluzone® High Dose, its indication and its place in immunotherapy
  • Understand the difference between a direct order and a medical directive
  • Receive counselling tips and best practices on requesting and obtaining a direct order from a prescriber to facilitate the prescribing and administration of Fluzone® High Dose
  • Understand the required forms that a pharmacist must utilize, complete and store in the obtaining of a direct order.

Program Completion

Pre-requisites and Target Audiences

There are no pre-requisites, and this program is designed for pharmacists who wish to learn immunizations, flu vaccines, pharmacy direct orders and managing pharmacy workflow.
