Learning Objectives:

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

Pharmacology of Opioid Agonist Treatment

·       Understand the pathophysiology and diagnosis of opioid use disorder                                        ·       Describe an overview of treatment modalities for opioid use disorder                                          ·       Describe the pharmacology of buprenorphine and understand how to induce a patient on buprenorphine/naloxone                                                                                                                ·       Describe the pharmacology of methadone including adverse events and drug interactions            ·       Identify the pharmacists' role as part of the addiction management team

Opioid Use Disorder: Aberrant Drug Behaviours and Psychiatric Comorbidities

·         Identify other opioids and other substances that clients may be using while on MMT
·         Describe the possible clinical presentations of clients using multiple substances
·         Explore a differential diagnosis of aberrant behaviour
·         Discuss potential treatment options for clients using multiple substances
·         Discuss and assess the potential concurrent psychiatric conditions which MMT patients may have
·         Describe the possible clinical presentations of clients using multiple substance
·         Identify other opioids and substances that clients may be using while on MMT
·         Discuss a differential diagnosis of aberrant behaviour

Pre-requisites:

There are no pre-requisites for this program. This series of live webinars were designed to support pharmacists in community, hospital, and other practice settings who have an interest in opioid addiction and substitution therapy. Other healthcare practitioners, including physicians, nurses, and addictions counsellors, can also benefit from participating.
