Who We Are
The Ontario Pharmacists' Association is the voluntary professional association for pharmacists and pharmacists-in-training in all sectors of pharmacy practice. Our Association is the lead voice for pharmacists in the province. Over 5,300 practicing pharmacists, educators, students, administrators, government pharmacists and pharmacy owners are members of OPA.

Vision Statement
To create an environment in Ontario where pharmacists are widely recognized as full partners in primary health care delivery and experts in drug information and medication use management, dedicated to optimize each individual patient's health.

Demographics
The majority of our members are between 30 and 60 years of age, with almost equal numbers of men and women member pharmacists. Pharmacists join OPA so that there is a single voice to speak for the profession. All full members of OPA are registered with the Ontario College of Pharmacists to practice pharmacy in Ontario. They practice in a variety of settings: hospitals, independent and chain drug stores, with the majority of members in community pharmacies across the province.

OPA Shapes the Future of the Pharmacy Profession

  • OPA develops strategic partnerships with other pharmacy groups to develop ways to reduce the administrative burden of drug plans to pharmacists.
  • As the voice for the pharmacy profession in Ontario, we present policies to the government that allow pharmacists to reach their full potential in primary care reform and renewal.
  • We consistently look for solutions to drug utilization concerns and we ally ourselves with other health care professionals within the primary health care model.
  • We support the trend towards e-Health in the province. We ensure that pharmacists will have access to pertinent health information to improve their effectiveness in patient care delivery.

  • Leading and supporting pharmacists to provide an expanded role as drug experts and medication managers.

  • Driving reimbursement for professional services from government and private payers and taking steps to remove current barriers to reimbursement.

  • Through the Drug Information and Research Centre, OPA staff pharmacists answer drug information questions from community pharmacists.

  • OPA staff pharmacists answer consumer questions 365 days a year through the province's TeleHealth Ontario Program.
