Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has a vision to advance and integrate health care to make it more accessible and improve efficiency. Since health care is information-based, better utilization of information has the potential to make the system more integrated and available, while enhancing patient safety and accountability. With this in mind, the Ministry has designed an eHealth strategy to drive the transformation of the healthcare system through the use of information and information technology.
What is eHealth?
According to the Ministry, eHealth is about achieving better health outcomes by transforming health systems and business practices through investment in, and more comprehensive use of, information and information technology.
EHealth is designed to deliver the right information about the right individual to the right person at the right place at the right time to enhance health outcomes and improve system efficiency.
OPA has been collaborating with stakeholders and actively involved in various eHealth projects. The Association will continue to lead in the eHealth environment to help ensure that initiatives and projects to be implemented reflect important input from Ontario pharmacists to helpcreate a better health system for all.
