Thank you to all of our attendees, sponsors and exhibitors for making OPA Conference 2007 a great success. Over 350 delegates had the opportunity to attend cutting edge continuing education sessions, listen to dynamic high profile speakers, visit a sold out exhibit hall and attend fabulous social events.
OPA’s Conference 2008 planning is underway and promises to be an event that will exceed your needs. Be sure to visit OPA’s web site for more information on Conference 2008 in the coming months.
Program at a Glance
As the saying goes, where there is a will there is a way - and pharmacists at this year’s Ontario Pharmacists’ Association (OPA) Conference gave constant proof of that. Whether speaking at the podium, visiting exhibit booths or networking during breaks, discussions repeatedly revolved around expanded pharmacist services - how to make them real, how to make them consistently available and how to make them sustainable.
OPA’s Conference offered practical training as well as inspiration in the area of expanded services, as delegates could complete a certificate program in methadone use or obesity management while on-site. As well, the Conference delivered 16 clinical sessions on a wide range of topics, from vaccinations to lipid guidelines, “superbugs,” diabetes, HIV and menopause. A few more business sessions - on financial planning, managing staff and liability and risk management for professional services - rounded out the full agenda.
Conference Program
Sessions and Presenters
Casino Night was a winning event for everyone
Delegates gambled the night away at the Las Vegas style Casino Night on Friday, September 7. After a great dinner, guests spent the evening playing blackjack, poker, and roulette for a chance to win fabulous prizes. Taro card readings and handwriting analysis added to the evening’s festivities. Clowns entertained the children with face painting, balloons and magic tricks. The evening was generously sponsored by Apotex Inc.
Captivating Gala was highlight of Conference
The highlight of OPA’s Conference, the Gala Awards Banquet, took place on Saturday, September 8. A group of pharmacists, selected by their peers, were honoured for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the profession in various fields. The evening also included the captivating high-energy entertainment of illusionist Brian Michaels. The Gala Awards Banquet was graciously sponsored by
Novopharm Limited.
